If there was a competition for who's winning the transfer window, Spain would definitely be in the lead. More specifically Real Madrid. How do you sort out a team that is dier need of a revolution? You do exactly what they've done. Militao. Jovic. Rodrygo. Hazard. And now Ferland Mendy of Lyon. A highly rated left back to take the place of the ageing Marcelo. Around 300 million spent... And they're probably not even done yet. They're in search of a central midfielder and are keen on Paul Pogba. Apparently Eriksen is the plan B option now if Pogba doesn't materialise - who is definitely Zidane's number one target. Surely though they can't just spend 450 million this summer and get away with it? FFP and all that? They're probably going to have sell a lot of players to get away with spending that much money. I can see Zidane letting go of Isco, Bale and Asensio this summer to balance the financial scales. Regardless, Real are doing some serious business this summer.
Speaking of the Spanish clubs, it seems Griezmann is off to Barcelona. Atletico Madrid CEO, Gil Marin, claimed yesterday that they've known Griezmann is off to Barcelona since March. I think we have all kind of expected it to happen since last summer. However, I don't see the hype. I've never watched Griezmann and thought, 'wow what a player.' He simply looks an okay player who is good at set pieces and passing the ball to players next to him. I really don't see it. I don't like him. And for certain, HE IS NOT A BARCELONA PLAYER. I'm genuinely quite surprised at this signing. Griezmann is also a big name player. We have seen what happens to big name players at Barcelona. They get fed up of being the shadow of Messi. It has happened so often now it's almost predictable. I can't see this signing working out and I can see Real surpassing Barcelona next season.
According to reports, Spurs are deep in talks now with Ndombele and closing in on a move. This is getting really serious now. If they managed to pull of this signing, it would be a huge statement of intent. A beast of midfielder capable of sitting in a more defensive role but also a massive threat offensively. They have been crying out for a replacement for Mousa Dembele for a while and this would be the man. He's basically a Dembele who can attack. But knowing Spurs and Levy, he will try negotiate a cheap deal, piss off Lyon, and end up losing the player to United or something.
The Premier League fixture list just came out a couple of hours ago. It's always a weird feeling that the season has just ended yet the fixtures have already come out. United will play Chelsea on the first weekend of the season in which could be Frank Lampard's first game as Chelsea manager. Liverpool will open the Premier League season against Norwich on Friday night. Mane triple captain first game of the season? Spurs host Aston Villa, whilst City and Arsenal have to go to West Ham and Newcastle respectively. Two months until the season starts... Yet already excited.
That's that for today's post. Will be back tomorrow for more news.
