Aston Villa are back in the Premier League. They deserved it. In what was a pretty enjoyable game, Villa were by far the better team for the large majority of the game. Derby didn't really get going until the last 10 minutes. Villa looked in control for most parts and honestly, looked a Premier League team whilst Derby looked a Championship team.
Derby have had a great season and should be proud of their efforts. But this was a step too far. Lampard has done so well to bring this team to this stage with a lack of quality in comparison to other teams. And it did show yesterday. McGinn was brilliant as usual and I thought Abraham led the line well. El Ghazi put in a superb performance but my MotM was Tyrone Mings. He looks a top defender. He could play for a top half Premier League team and I'm surprised Bournemouth got rid of him. On the other hand, he suffers with injury problems, so perhaps this was a problem for Eddie Howe. His performance at the back was that of a rock and a leader and his ability to play out from the back is also impressive.
Derby weren't really in the game until the end of the game. When Waghorn tucked away the goal the pendulum swung completely. It was all Derby and they had a number of good chances. But that was too little too late. They should have played like this for longer periods instead of a short burst at the end. But then again, maybe Villa were tired and inviting more pressure. But ultimately I am so glad Villa are back in the Premier League and I don't see them going back down any time soon.
The England squad was finalised for the Nations League finals. Kieran Trippier has been left
out. I couldn't be happier. Thank God. Finally, no more having to see him in an England shirt any time soon. Thanks for the memories last World Cup, but bye bye. Harry Winks has been omitted which I am quite disappointed about, baring in mind how well he performs for England and was brilliant in that famous win in Spain, whilst players like Barkley and Delph are still in. Perhaps he is not fully fit, which is the only explanation I'd accept. Aside from that I'm not too fussed with the squad, as long as Maddison and Wan-Bissaka are called up after this summer's U21 European Championships.
Europa League final tomorrow night. Will post a preview tomorrow morning. See you then.
